Is That Normal?

Ever had a bad day? Welcome to the human race.  Everyone has days or seasons that are a struggle.  You know the reasons – money, family, school, health…… I have had a full summer.  Lots of joy and family but also some struggles.  I’ve been out of my usual Oola rhythm for a few weeks.

Over 20 years ago my husband was seriously injured in July with a long stay in the hospital.  I went to see my principal as the school year was about to start and she asked if I needed to go on leave but I said no.  Teaching would be the one thing that might feel normal. It was the right decision.  Paul went back to work in November too, even though he was on desk duty for a while because he needed some normal too.

Yesterday I decided to turn off the iPad (too much wasted time on junk) and get back to normal.  I took a few pieces of fabric from my stash to my favorite quilt shop and bought fabric to make a quilted wall hanging. It was great working with Becky to mix and match just the right fabrics.  I started cutting almost as soon as I got home.  I realized I was doing something I love to do that feels normal.  😍

Life is full of highs and lows.  Sometimes normal feels just right.  I encourage you to find what’s normal for you went life gets a little tough.

We have also had a big life change in the last couple of weeks.  Our oldest daughter moved out of our home and into a dorm.  The house is a bit quieter and everyone is now in bed at a reasonable time.  It feels strange, and I haven’t been able to get used to this new “normal,” it’s thrown me for a loop.

When life is rough I think it is important to focus on taking care of yourself!  I usually need time to myself to clear my head.  I like to take myself out to lunch and just enjoy the quiet of it all.  Sometimes it’s a pedicure with a book so they leave me alone.  Whatever it is for you, make sure you take the time for yourself.  Mental health is just as important as physical health.  If you aren’t in a good place mentally you can’t give your best to others.  Obviously, no one has it together all the time which is why I urge you to find something that you can do that is just for you and your happiness.

Hope you are all well!!
